Adding Related Publications
Related Publications refer to publications that use the data from a dataset and are an essential part of your metadata. These citations provide context to the dataset and build active connections between the datasets, articles, and other scholarly outputs the data supported. You can indicate forthcoming unpublished articles and, once available, update the record to provide a link to the source and build a network between collaborators and sources, increasing impact and developing an awareness of all of your scholarly work.
The "Related Publication" has four fields, rather than one. Here's an explanation of each component and what it does.
Provide the basic citation information based on the discipline schema in the citation field. You can cut and paste citation text from a journal, citation manager, another text source, or type it in.
The second field is the id type. If you cite a journal article with a Digital Object Identifier or DOI, select DOI in front of the dropdown. Other ID types are available such as ISBNs for books, handles IDs, ISSN, Pubmed IDs, and more.
The third box is the ID number. You can either include the full URL or just the prefix information keeping in mind that this will display in the citation record so your schema may indicate a recommended practice. The ID number can have both the full URL or just the prefix if you are going to add the same information in the URL box.
The fourth box is the URL linking the citation to the publication’s web page making it easy for the user to click through to the relevant publication.
If you leave the ID number blank, you will not have a clickable and citable URL for the landing page version of the citation. So please make sure to fill in all the fields.
Multiple related publications: You continue to add as many publications that this data directly supports but Dataverse only displays the first related publication on the dataset page. Add a primary publication that you want to show on the initial page first. If you have more than one publication, they will be available by selecting the metadata tab.
